Katherine and I went swimming in a lake for fun. Then we noticed an ornithomimid dinosaur. But this one had FINS. We found an Aureliospondylus.
Named for their fin-colors, Aureliospondylus is adapted for life in the water. It has two special adaptations while hunting fish. First of all, it uses the tail fin as a lure similar to the barbel on an anglerfish. Secondly, it has a pair of extra nostrils on the back of their head. So they don't have to come up for air while hunting with their heads underwater. Aureliospondylus get very excited when they sense food, and when they find it, they make an annoying whooping call, that sounds like the word "mine," indicating that this dinosaur is very vocal.
This is an incredible method for a terrestrial predator to fish for prey.
