2.2 – Underdog

Plot:

With repairs of Kiryu complete, Gyozen installs a new device into the cyborg he believes will lure Godzilla through ultrasonic waves. He tests the device out to lure Godzilla and kill him, but it lures Anguirus instead, and Masato is beginning to distrust the admiral.

Full Summary:

Shortly after Kiryu’s repairs finished, Dr. Shiragami offered Gyozen a new device to help: a sound device designed to lure kaiju to the source of the device, similar to how some people lure whales with recordings. Gyozen at first rejects this “dog whistle,” but soon changes his mind when he hears it will lure Godzilla to him.

Near Mt. Fuji, Masato & Natsumi are out on a date while the other kids are at a hangout. They see Kiryu, piloted by Gyozen, land near the mountain. He tests the device, and then waits. Half an hour passes, and just as he gets impatient, everyone hears a familiar howl. At first Gyozen gets excited, hoping for Godzilla, but a different kaiju shows up instead: Anguirus.

Masato soon remembers how Anguirus has never won a single fight himself, but Natsumi tells him that he is the type that never gives up without a fight. Kiryu and Anguirus viciously fight. Kiryu prepares the Zero Cannon, but Anguirus curls up in ball form and rolls, knocking him over, causing his shot to go up and hits a plane. Soon, Godzilla appears and quickly defeats Kiryu. Later, Gyozen is sent to court martial for his aggressive behaviors.
